Writing for me
who else should I write for?
I have been trying to think of something interesting or clever to write as I didn’t post anything last week and I didn’t want to lose momentum. So I have been racking my brain trying to find a topic that others could relate to and would want to read. But then I realised, people might not read it anyway so wouldn’t it be better to write just for me.
So that is what I am doing. Writing for me, because I want to write and keep the habit up, practice so I can figure out my writing style and write about what interests me or what I feel I need to get down on the page. I have been inspired by Jackie in her Little Writing Corner (https://substack.com/@jackiemorrisonwrites) and must remember to just keep writing, whether my posts are being read or not, I just need to keep doing it for myself.
It’s not like I haven’t been writing, I have used the prompts from Writers’ Hour Magazine which come through each week and I have entered some competitions, not expecting anything but so happy with myself for submitting by the deadline. Doing these small bits of writing I have noticed how much more engaged I am becoming with the writing process, trying not to edit each paragraph of my work but just write until I have the number of words I need. The more I write, the more I hope to be able to write and maybe one day, I will write a short story or, dare I say it, a whole novel!
But let’s not push it. Little pieces for now, just like this little post. I actually should be doing a safeguarding course online, so I think I should get on with that now and stop procrastinating. Although, it makes a change to be procrastinating in my job rather than in my writing. A little bit of writing progress.
